How can clothing affect your rate of thrush?

Candida proliferates in warm moist and airless locations. Clothes that promote this environment around your vulva and vagina will enable it to grow.

If candida gets on your clothes or towels, you can continue to reinfect yourself. If you have an active thrush infection - you must wash items frequently and not reuse any materials that could have amounts of the yeast on it.

Recommendations:

  • Wear only cotton underwear

  • Do not wear underwear at night

  • Do not wear nylon tights often

  • Wear loose bottoms as much as possible made out of natural fibres that allow airflow. E.g. Cotton, linen, bamboo, wool

  • Change out of sweaty gym wear as soon as possible

  • Change out of wet swimsuits as soon as possible

Where can I get candida-fighting clothes?

Check the labels on items you buy to make sure they're made from natural fibres.

Whilst you should be able to find what you need at your high street stores like M&S and UNIQLO, there are dedicated women's brands designed to keep infections to a minimum.

These include:

Merri Intimates (Underwear)

Flissie

DermaSilk - designed for thrush & vulvodynia
