Preparing for an Appointment

There is often insufficient time during Doctor appointments to go through your case. Whether that's with your GP, consultant and or nurse.

GP's are allocated 10 minutes per appointment slot.

Consultants on the NHS are allocated around 30 minutes per appointment slot. Any follow up is likely allocated no longer than 15 minutes.

Privately, the average consultant appointment time for new patients is 30 minutes and 20 minutes for a follow-up.

Good Doctors will often be aware this is not long enough and will run over. If you end up waiting a long time to see a Doctor, be understanding they are trying to do their job in impossible circumstances and should give you the grace of the time you need. If you end up running over - this is a good sign they respect your need for answers.

It is vital that you get what you need out of your appointment, which is why Thrush Support has created a free document for you to duplicate and tailor to your case for your next appointment. A sample can be seen below.
