THRUSH IN MEN

Can men get thrush?

Yes, men can get thrush although it's more associated with women.

Thrush can develop on the tip of the man's penis, inflaming the region (balanitis).

Risk factors:

  • Having a partner with an active thrush infection

  • Antibiotic use

  • Diabetes (especially if poorly controlled)

  • Weakened immune system

  • Not washing the genital area regularly or drying it thoroughly

  • Being uncircumcised

Treatment:

  • Usually treated with antifungal creams (e.g., clotrimazole or miconazole)

  • In more persistent cases, an oral antifungal tablet (e.g., fluconazole) may be prescribed

  • Good hygiene and avoiding perfumed soaps can help recovery and prevent recurrence
